Using barns for installation spaces...
Living on a farm I have a lot of free space in barns and outbuildings. After a conversation about my project idea with an art tutor, she explained how she has a reoccurring nightmare in which she enters a barn which is like her mind. In the barn there are objects and figures in different corners and areas.
This inspired me to consider using the barn space for installation work as the internal structures and dark corners seem metaphorical of the brain. Within the barn hidden spaces and dark corners can account for the areas of the subconscious which we can not access. TThe Croatian/Austrian Design Collaborative Numen/For Use blends architecture and public installation art.
The sculpture-like pieces are large in scale and take over whole public spaces while also reinventing them, changing the way in which they can be occupied and changing the experience of the interactions between participants. Tape and NET take a material that is disposable and non architectural and turn it into one that has architectural capacity.
